Sandman Billiards Ltd. was able to introduce a new concept for how to run this event, and in 2002 a new all-time record with more than 400 schools and youth recreation centers participated in the event. Sandman Billiards Ltd. also managed to get the federations in Denmark, Finland and Norway interested in this work and since 2002 the event now also has a touch of international flair through the annual Scandinavian Championships. Germany and Poland have recently started to show interest for the event as well, and hopefully in years to come the event can be increased to encompass a large portion of the European countries.
During the 2004/2005 season finally also the Swedish Billiard Federation (SBF) started to show interest for this event, and at this point in time it is still somewhat unclear if the SBF in time for the new season will take over the responsibility for the Swedish portion of the event. There is little doubt that this would be a very wise move though, since Billiards Sports in Sweden throughout recent years have lost significantly in popularity, and this in spite of the fact that Billiards is played more than ever in the country.
The Swedish Championship has three faces, the local and the regional qualifications and then the national final. The local portion of the event is being organized directly in the schools and youth recreation centers, and mainly during the fall each year. In the beginning of each new year then the regional events are being organized in billiard centers in some 10-15 major cities. Finally, the Swedish Championship is being organized in Stockholm over a weekend, and here around 40 teams divided in four different categories are participating.
