Jorgen Sandman in charge of the EBC office

The first mandator to assign a task to Sandman Billiards Ltd. became the European Billiard Congress (EBC). The EBC was founded back in 1997 as an organization to promote and protect the interests of the European billiards industry. The EBC was mainly structured in the same fashion as the Billiard Congress of America (BCA), an organization that has been around in one way or another for more than 50 years. However, since the European market is one that is covering more than 45 countries, almost as many languages and a large number of currencies, the task of the EBC for obvious reasons is so much tougher.

Sandman Billiards Ltd. was during the years 2001 - 2003 running the office for the EBC. Mainly this meant that all communications back and forth between the many integers involved in the European billiards industry were distributed through the office of Sandman Billiards Ltd. Other tasks that rested upon Sandman Billiards Ltd. included the organizing of meetings, advicing of members, recruiting of new members, etc., as well as the bookkeeping and the preparing of the financial reports.

With the assistance of Sandman Billiards Ltd. the Russian Billiard Congress was founded in 2002 and whereas this new member of the EBC still very much is operating, the EBC in 2003 decided to rest with its activities. Mainly this decision was based upon a feeling that the European market still is not ready for an organization such as the EBC. When the time comes and the interest for international billiards exhibitions again will grow, it is to be expected that the EBC will be re-activated.

Did you know that...
...the cue as we know it today came about as a result of the first ever rulebook on Billiards - "The compleat Gamestar", published in 1674 and written by James Cotton (GBR)? At this point a mace (a club-like stick) was otherwise used, and the rulebook stated that whenever a ball is frozen to the cushion it would be allowed to use the thin butt of the mace to strike the ball.
